A Narrative Game by Vatan Studio

Some journeys change the map.Others change you.

1947: THE STORIES FROM PARTITION

Some borders divide countries. Others divide lives.

Part 01 · Context

A country changed overnight. Millions had to find a way forward.

In 1947, a line was drawn across a map. For millions, that line became a journey.

Homes were abandoned and families separated. Trains became temporary homes, letters the only thread back, and memory the one thing everyone could carry.

The game tells this moment one person at a time: a new name each chapter, the same summer. You make their choices, and you carry what those choices cost. Chapter One follows Gul.

A fictional story set within documented historical circumstances.

GUL

Part 02 · The Person

He did not choose the road. He chose to keep walking.

Gul works his family's land outside Gojra Mandi. The night the mobs reach the district, he becomes one of millions on the move, and everything after that depends on what he carries, whom he trusts, and how much luck one summer can hold. Where his road ends is for you to discover.

The Chapters

One summer. Many crossings.

Every chapter follows a different person through the Partition summer: a new name, a different road, an ending no one is promised. Chapter One follows Gul.

Chapter 01

GUL

01

The Village

Gojra Mandi, late August. The news arrives before the dust of it. Gul has one night to decide what his life weighs.

02

The Jungle

Off the roads, into the trees. Out there, a snapped twig can be a friend, or the end of the story.

03

The Station

Thousands wait for a train that is only a rumour. Boarding it costs more than a ticket.

04

The Train

East, on a crowded roof, the border coming closer. Can he make it across? That answer is the game's to give.

Unwritten · new names, new roads, the same summer

Part 03 · The Game

Four places from Gul's crossing.

Environments built from archival photography, light studies and recorded accounts of the period.

The town left behind

GOJRA MANDI

Grain sacks, shuttered stalls, and news that travels faster than carts.

Fields and scrubland under a low sun (placeholder for the jungle)

The hiding place

THE JUNGLE

Cover by day, movement by night. The road is near enough to hear.

The waiting place

THE STATION

One platform, thousands of names. Every train is a rumour until it arrives.

Refugee trains crowded in a rail yard, 1947

The way east

THE TRAIN

Roof, footboard, buffer: any place that holds. Every mile east is borrowed.

Part 05 · The Studio

We build the worlds history left behind.

Vatan Studio is a small independent team of writers, artists and historians. We make narrative games about the people who lived through big history: the ones who kept the accounts, packed the bags and waited on the platforms.
